I traverse a lot of remote roads in the middle of the night, such as highway 16 in between McBride and Prince George where the mooses outnumber the cars, and where once I went an hour and only saw two other cars.
I want to mount an additional axuillary high beam light for my 2012 Ford Focus. I don’t need it to be functional in the city but a seperate relay or high beam tie in would be great for those dark dark roads.
I am thinking a 12 inch LED light bar would do nicely.
I am just wondering, in a car with no real grill to speak of, where I should mount it. Anyone have any experience?
This is the front we are dealing with.

Look for a part of the grill where there’s no air going through? Maybe just above the plate? Or put it on the roof.

There is no plate. This is Alberta.

Is there a spot where the plate would mount otherwise?

Yes.

Hm. Could you just mount a small light bar on the plate area? Crappy Tire sells one small enough, last time I checked.
Then there are the little cube ones that you could probably put on your mirror or A-pillar.

Are they bright? Link me to the piece in the CT catalogue? I want something that will help me see when I’m doing a buck 10 and the next nearest car is 40 kms away.

Here you go. They’re pretty great at blinding Canadian Tire employees (ask how I know).
EDIT: And this one too.

It’s a bottom-breather anyways, just remove the upper “grille” trim and stick it in there by bending up some brackets out of sheet metal and using factory points.

Good thinking. Check out this little guy. Just put him on the drivers side and away I go. https://www.amazon.ca/LITE-WAY-Waterproof-Jeep4X4-motorcycle-Daytime/dp/B01HD5L21K/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&qid=1474604008&sr=8-34-spons&keywords=led+light+bars&psc=1
I might order it next week!

I was just thinking to take the chrome strip and Ford logo out, measure, and order the biggest one that will fit.

I’d like to leave the Ford logo on if possible. I was thinking that guy is so little he could fit behind the strip somewhere for mounting.

I shall order it in a few days although I should get out the measuring tape first.

Why not go full-on rally lights?

The answer is two rally lights!

These instructions are with the facelifted grille but same basic idea applies.

I miss not having fogs in inclimate weather here in Nova Scotia and I often have to drive in bad weather in the wintertime, so I’ve been looking into two small LED lights to mount on Humdrum for a little extra light.
These were what I was thinking of going with:

If you took the upper grille trim out along with the badge, stuck the light bar in there, and shaved all the other emblems, you could re-badge it as a Mercury Tracer (even though it was the Sable that lit up).
